Dr. Barbara Galindo is a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Dept. of Spanish, Latin American, and Caribbean Literatures and Cultures at Scripps College. Previously, she was a Chancellor’s Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Media and Cultural Studies at the University of California, Riverside, and an ACLS Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s Institute for Research in the Humanities. Her work develops a new critical framework for understanding socio-environmental issues in Abya Yala/Amefrica Ladina (Latin America) by examining the intersections of ecology, Indigeneity, race, class, gender, space/place, time, biopolitics, and human rights across literary and audiovisual media. She is also developing a filmmaking practice centered on screenwriting and editing. Most recently, she co-wrote and helped edit her first short fiction film, Claraboia (2026).
Dr. Galindo’s interdisciplinary training and experience working closely with Kichwa-Lamista Indigenous peoples and Andean female activists in Peru have significantly shaped her research interests and continue to inform her scholarship. Her most recent and forthcoming publications can be found in the Journal of Latin American Cultural Studies (JLACS), LACIS Review, and the Bulletin of Latin American Research (BLAR).
